Day 10 - Faber & Faber

Day 10 of our 12 Plays of Christmas giveaway is brought to you by Faber & Faber who are offering three of their recently published plays!

First, we have Network by Lee Hall. Recently adapted for the stage the Paddy Chayefsky film, Network premiered at the National Theatre in 2017. Howard Beale, a news anchorman, isn’t pulling in the viewers. In his final broadcast, he unravels live on screen. But when the ratings soar, the network seize on their newfound populist prophet, and Howard becomes the biggest thing on TV… “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore.”

Pocket Playhouse by Michael Frayn. In thirty-six comic sketches, Michael Frayn provides a tour de force of theatrical imagination and satire. Each sketch reveals the author’s infectious delight in writing between the lines of theatre, fiction and comedy. Charmingly packaged and published with flair, Pocket Playhouse is the perfect gift for all theatre and comedy writers.

Wind Resistance by Karine Polwart. An immersive musical essay. A meditation on sanctuary. A moor walker’s journal. A personal memoir of maternity. An archaeology of flight science and football, medieval medicine and compassion. A wonder tale. Karine Polwart’s Wind Resistance is co-produced with the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and was originally presented in association with Edinburgh International Festival 2016.
